About Us

Why we exist

At Not Abandoned we are driven to provide practical options for those made vulnerable by sex slavery. Some of such options include the provision of a loving and caring community, personal mentoring, trauma counseling, transitional housing, soft skills training, employment opportunities, business coaching and community reintegration.

All around the world there are vulnerable peoples who are left without healthy options for living. These people often end up in the sex industry through no real choice of their own. At Not Abandoned we are driven by the fact that we come from a society filled with positive and accessible opportunity, while “she” remains “there”… in that brothel, all alone, without hope. We want to provide something better. We want all the “shes” and “hes” trafficked into the sex industry to access to another option for life – a new life full of health, hope, support and opportunity.

We want to change the option from slavery to freedom.

Our Vision

A world where no one is abandoned to sex slavery.

Our Mission

To intervene in the sex industry and provide practical options and accessible programing to victims and families.

Our Values

These are our non-negotiable values in how we conduct all of our operations.

  • We will continue to be an action driven organization that is committed to serving the darkest trafficking hubs of the world. We will not just talk about it, but we will practically be present among the most vulnerable peoples to offer freedom and hope.

  • We will not abandoned victims, no matter how messy, difficult or complex their life circumstances become. Once we offer our commitment of care, we will remain alongside the traumatized with practical help and unconditional love.

  • We will maintain the priority of strategic partnership with others who are likeminded to grow effective and reproducible.

  • We will not allow ourselves to grow stagnant. We will keep this organization flexible, relevant and humble so that we may see the opportunities at hand, respond and take action when the unexpected happens with those trafficked whom we serve.

  • We will operate with integrity and handle resources wisely, in a spirit of openness and transparency.
Our History
Jeff McKinley

In 1997 Not Abandoned’s founder, Jeff McKinley, traveled to the country of Thailand for the first time. It was then that he saw the issue of sex trafficking and its prevalence in the nation first hand. What struck him the most was not merely seeing the issue but it was the sheer magnitude of the problem and realizing Thailand is the global epicenter of sex slavery. Jeff’s heart was grieved by the fact that there was so little practical work that was being done to come alongside this horrifically abused demographic of people. His role as mission’s pastor for a large church in Washington State brought him back to Thailand multiple times and specifically, the city of Pattaya. In 2008 Not Abandoned was launched for the purpose of addressing anti-trafficking issues in very direct ways by coming alongside victimized peoples with love, care and practical resources that provide opportunities to live in hope and freedom.

The organization launched outreach teams directly into the brothels to offer a variety of programs such as job skills training, job placement, business start up training, trauma counseling, emergency housing, and basic need provision through the employment education center. Also, in the city of Korat, a gateway city about four hours north in the region of Isaan, transitional housing, prevention, community reintegration and more skills training and job placement programs were established. It is a core value to take the successful model that has been developed and freed hundreds of lives and to replicate it in other strategic trafficking centers of the world. This replication is necessary to see lasting and sustainable change in communities. Not Abandoned is driven by the fact there are still many vulnerable peoples working in evenings of despair that deserve mornings of freedom. Our heart is to build this vision and mission in partnership with others who are likeminded and are eager to make a practical, strategic impact in lives and communities bringing real freedom physically, emotionally and spiritually.
