This month Not Abandoned Team and volunteers headed deep into the southern part of Morocco to work with our Ability Centers… 300+ Children and Family Received Medical Care 65 Teachers Trained 11 Medical Professional Volunteers 12 Moroccan Translators (these young adults are Morocco’s future leaders!) 2,500 Miles Driven!

A mother and her children leave one of our Ability Centers in Southern Morocco after receiving free medical care for her family. This special visit works in conjunction with the on-going services this center provides.

Not Abandoned has long been in the business of creating safe spaces... and that business is soon expanding... At our Freedom Center in Pattaya, Thailand we are equipping our new bakery and cafe to provide healthy employment, job training, supportive community, and empowering opportunities to our students working to exit the abusive sex industry. This cafe will also be a gift to the greater community with locally sourced coffee, in-house pastries, healthy drinks, and a library of games and books.

These centers support children with disabilities by providing a safe place for them to receive physical, educational and emotional care. These special children and their families are at extremely high risk for exploitation because of widespread cultural shame and high financial challenges. Our center in Algeciras, Spain serves over 400 people every single month with support groups, language classes, food distribution, trafficking recovery, and emergency support. The prevention of trafficking and abuse in NortheastThailand is a vital component of Not Abandoned’s strategy to end exploitation and empower freedom. This year our team has worked with over 280 students, their families and teachers in their home villages, at our Freedom Center and in the classrooms of our local schools. Pattaya remains as the sex industry capital of the world. This challenging city’s illegal exploitation continues to diversify its efforts to keep women oppressed, however, there is hope. We are nearing the completion of our new Freedom Center that will house both additional business and a social service arms of our programming. Our team has been working with students this year to prepare them for employment and management in our soon-to-open on-campus cafe and have also been working on new outreach methods to better reach the younger and younger women entering the city looking for work and love. There are probably a thousand stories from this year that we could share of tragedy and hope. But allow us a moment to share with you just one, the story of Rasheba. She moved from Morocco, from her family, to the mafia…

I took this photo 3 months ago in Pattaya, Thailand. It shows an older man and a young boy exiting a brothel after more than an hour. There is no way of me knowing if this child was abused inside, purchased for exploitation later, or simply this man's son. In any plausible scenario, this child was not in a safe or healthy situation. It's heartbreaking and infuriating and further reason for why we do what we do as Not Abandoned.

A response to the Sound of Freedom film

There are many faces of exploitation. The force, fraud, and coercion of trafficking ushers in many facets of victimization. There is no one face of a survivor, there is no one face of an exploiter. When we over-simplify our expectations of what the crime should look like, we are only making ourselves more vulnerable to it's harm.

Don't mistake propaganda entertainment for proper education.

There are many faces of exploitation. The force, fraud, and coercion of trafficking ushers in many facets of victimization. There is no one face of a survivor, there is no one face of an exploiter. When we over-simplify our expectations of what the crime should look like, we are only making ourselves more vulnerable to it's harm.

We do our absolute best to minimize any gaps in services between our direct service offerings and our trusted community partners. It takes a village to truly empower freedom!

At our Korat Freedom Center in northeast Thailand our students our offered a variety of support programs. Some, like emergency essentials kits, help fulfill physical needs. Others do the hard work of processing, healing, and rebuilding after trauma. There is such a vibrancy in the kids we serve! Sometimes is just takes a friend to help unlock it.
